Are you here because you need help?
I have not provided links to suicide hotlines, because personally I find them unhelpful and do not want to participate in that kind of lip service.
Instead, this is my advice.
If you are currently in acute crisis please try and treat yourself as if you are someone you love: eat, sleep and look after yourself until your condition becomes less acute. It’s important to give your body the rest and resources it needs to recover, even if it does not feel like it is working. Seek medical attention if you feel it is appropriate.
Try and avoid harmful coping mechanisms as, although they may feel effective in the short-term, they are a detriment to your well-being and will make recovery more challenging.
After riding out your acute crisis, research coping mechanisms and build a plan for yourself. Mend the roof while the sun is shining.
Please remember that I am not a trained mental health professional and am unqualified to give advice. Whilst I am happy to speak in relation to my lived experiences, I cannot take personal responsibility for anyone’s mental health.
Curated Resources
I have created this page in response to the emails I receive by people who have been affected by the content of my blogs or talks. One of the reasons I have created this list is because there is much literature regarding mental health that is stigmatizing, which can make sorting through such materials distressing. This list can be a shortcut, of sorts, for those who may be at the beginning of their journey. It is the result of trial, error and crowdsourcing from online communities.
Please do not contact me regarding this list at this time, as I do not wish to be exposed to potentially triggering content whilst I undertake therapy.
